Sümmerer for the R3B Collaboration A new universal setup with high effi ciency, acceptance, and resolution for kinematically complete measurements of reactions with high-energy radioactive beams is planned to be installed at the focal plane of the high-energy branch of the Super-FRS at FAIR. The experimental confi guration is based on a concept similar to the existing LAND setup introducing substantial improvement with respect to resolution and an extended detection scheme including a detector system for light (target-like) recoil particles in coincidence with the heavy fragments, neutrons and protons. The experimental setup is aiming at utilizing a wide variety of scattering experiments. Among them are light-ion (in)elastic and quasi-free scattering in inverse kinematics. The combination of the detection of fragments in forward direction with the target-recoil detection allows for the fi rst time a kinematical complete measurement of, e.g., quasi-free nucleon knockout reactions.

Status of the HDMS experiment, the GENIUS project and the GENIUS-TF

The status of dark matter search in Heidelberg is reviewed. After one year of running the HDMS prototype experiment in the Gran Sasso Underground Laboratory, the inner crystal of the detector has been replaced with a HPGe crystal of enriched Ge. The results of the operation of the HDMS prototype detector are discussed. In the light of the contradictive results from the CDMS and DAMA experiments...

Design and Characterization of a Neutron Calibration Facility for the Study of sub-keV Nuclear Recoils

As part of an experimental effort to demonstrate sensitivity in a large-mass detector to the ultra-low energy recoils expected from coherent neutrino-nucleus elastic scattering, we have designed and built a highly monochromatic 24 keV neutron beam at the Kansas State University Triga Mark-II reactor. The beam characteristics were chosen so as to mimic the soft recoil energies expected from reac...

Experimental and Monte Carlo studies on the response of CR-39 detectors to Am-Be neutron spectrum

Background: The Poly-Allyl Diglycol Carbonate (PADC) detector is of particular interest for development of a fast neutron dosimeter. Fast neutrons interact with the constituents of the CR-39 detector and produce H, C and O recoils, as well as (n, α) reaction. These neutron- induced charged particles contribute towards the response of CR-39 detectors. Material and Methods: Electrochemical...

CALIFA: a Photon and High Energy Charged Particle Calorimeter for R3B

CALIFA [1] is the detector of the RB/FAIR experiment that acts as total absorption γ calorimeter and spectrometer as well as identifier of charged particles from target residues when operating in coincidence with the Target Recoil (tracking) Detector (TRD). This versatility is its most challenging requirement, demanding a huge dynamic range, covering from low energy γ to 300 MeV protons. A typi...
